URBAN NEWS WAREHOUSE PRESENTS TO YOU
"RHYME N REASON"
HOW DID THE NAME
RHYME N' REASON COME ABOUT?
Huey: Once we realized that we were more than just two guys
rapping we decided we needed a name. From there we did the temptations thing
and tossed some names around. This is what we felt our style embodied.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU
BEEN RAPPING?
Together about 3 1/2 years, Tazms been singing since a child
in church, I (Huey) have been rapping since I was twelve.
WHO INFLUENCED YOU IN
THE RAP GAME AS YOU WERE GROWING UP?
Cee-Lo Green, Pac, Dre, Special ED, Biggie, Wu Tang
Clan, Devin Tha Dude, Bone Thug in Harmony, MC Hammer, UGK, 8Ball and MJG, Nas,
Jay-Z. We both could go on all day with that one.
HOMETOWN?
Baton Rouge
NAME?
Rhyme and Reason
ALIAS?
Huey P. and Phantazm
WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU
CAN BRING TO THE GAME THAT MIGHT BE MISSING?
Lots of people claim to bring a "Breath of Fresh
Air" into the game. We bring the FRESHEST air there is. "Knowledge with
Swagger and Lyrics sharper than daggers." And a true appreciation for the music
as it is now and what it will evolve into tomorrow, a lot of today's new artist
lack the latter.
WHAT'S OUT THERE
RIGHT NOW FOR THE FANS TO HEAR?
Right now you can check out six of our latest tracks on

Speakers and Lights Down seem to be the peoples choice right now and that's who
we listen to. But don't let us limit you, the others are blazing hot as well.
WHAT'S IN THE WORKS
RIGHT NOW FOR YOU GUYS?
"The Meal Ticket" a 3 part mixtape series
(Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) Breakfast will be out MAY 25...Memorial Day, We
have a couple of our favorite hip hop tracks from the past and present as well
as Production By Huey P. for BEATCITI Entertainment, Our(Huey P. and
Tazm) entertainment Co.. But I won't spoil the surprises; suffice to say
it will be hot.
HOW DID YOU GUYS HOOK UP?
I (Huey) at a local studio
producing for another artist, the same studio happened to be Tazms home studio
at the time. After finishing up one night we ran into each other, I was working
on a song myself and needed a hook I asked if he would mind singing the hook.
He dropped the hook and then spit a verse, we stayed up working on that first
song till 8 the next morning. That's how it started.
PHANTAZAM, HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO TRANSITION FROM
SINGER TO RAPPER?
There was never really a transition. I'm still a singer. Ive always been
a writer and a hip hop enthusiast. Hearing my rapping voice for the first time
in a studio about four years ago, made me want to explore the craft. I thing
what a lot of artist forget is that were all works in progress. Don't doubt me.
HUEY P, KNOWING THAT YOU'RE MOST LIKELY GOING TO BE
DOING ALL THE PRODUCING; DOES THAT MAKE IT EASIER KNOW WHEN YOU GO INTO THE
STUDIO YOU ALREADY MAY HAVE A CONCEPT IN MIND?
When it comes to the album
I would say ALL the producing, I am just as much a rapper as i am a Producer,
so although my beats are ridiculously off the chain, I would love to work with
some other producers in the game and focus solely on the lyrics sometimes. A
lot of the times Tazm AKA "Captain Hook" usually comes up with a hook
and we run from there. I have my moments when I know exactly what i have in
mind, and that's always good, have an idea gives us more confidence and you CAN hear confidence through
the speakers.
SO, YOU GUYS SAY WHAT YOU PUT IN, IS WHAT YOU GET
OUT OF THE MUSIC, COULD YOU FURTHER ELABORATE?
Mix Al Green with a little Electric Light Orchestra, Temptations, Pink
Floyd, Gospel and an entire culture of Hip Hop from its inception and you
get Rhyme and Reason. These are a few of the things we have planted in
ourselves, listened to, studied and admired. Anytime you put so much music
inside of you it has to come out in some form, for us it comes out in our
lyrics and music.
EXPLAIN HOW YOU GUYS WANT TO BE MORE THAN ONE GENRE?
As Tazm said we are all works in progress, neither one of us expect to be
the same person lyrically ten years from now. We expect to be better but we also
know that our feelings change as well as what we listen to; who knows...in the
future we may just create a new genre.
HOW, DID ARTIST SUCH AS CEE-LO GREEN, DEVIN THE
DUDE, ETC INFLUENCE YOU TO DO YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?
Tazm: I remember listening to everything from west coast gangsta rap to New Orleans bounce. I
love how music moves people. But what has always stood out to me is Rap/Hip Hop
that makes me think or has a positive mental influence. That's why I'm such a
big fan of Cee-Lo Green. We've seen so many different sides of him throughout
his career, but he's never strayed from who he is. Plus he's just as great a
lyricist as a singer.
DISCUSS THE SONG LIGHT DOWN?
The hook actually came from another one of Tazms verses on an earlier
song, we were at a friends house when I produced it, we screwed up the hook and
called in Rouge another up and coming artist in BR to seal the deal with a
bangin' feature.
YOU GUYS ARE DEFINITELY SEPARATED FROM MOST ARTISTS
COMING OUT OF BATON ROUGE?
THAT'S WHAT WE WANT! Because we know that there is so much more to BR
than what's being heard.
DISCUSS THE 3 PART SERIES MIXTAPE "MEAL
TICKET"
BREAKFAST, LUNCH, and DINNER.
This is our first mixtape, and this is before we've got a deal. We
have no doubt that our skills will bring us success, we just haven't been
heard, and that's what "The Meal Tickect" is designed to do, its a
showcase. THE MEAL TICKET~BREAKFAST EDITION~ MAY 25 MEMORIAL DAY.
YOU GUYS SEEMED PRETTY FOCUSED KNOWING THAT YOU'RE
NOT GOING TO JUST JUMP ONTO ANY RECORD LABEL; YOU SAY IT MUST BE THE RIGHT
SITUATION?
We don't plan on jumping just because there's money thrown. We want to be
sure that were not sacrificing any of who or what we are just to get money that
would have eventually come to us. We have no plan of being back shelf artist,
so we would enter any deal with caution.
YOU SAY MUSIC IS MORE TO YOU GUYS BESIDES THE MONEY,
CARS, CLOTHES, AND WELL THEY KNOW THE REST:
Music is the beat you hear in the car and can't get out of
your head, or hearing a song and thinking 10 years back to exactly where you
were. Music is listening to a song and feeling like some one else knows your
pain, your love, your struggle, and your success. When you've grasped a hold of
these things all the other stuff in the industry follows.
