With the weather heating up, SOHH asked Busta
Rhymes, Hurricane Chris and M.O.P.
if they could lay out the formula for a hot summer song.
As SOHH celebrates summer music, Hurricane
Chris--who is set to release his sophomore album, Unleashed--revealed
his methods for crafting a summer hit.
"To have a hot summer song
you gon' have to have that beat that sound like summertime. You gon' have to
have that track that just makes you want to come out and feel fresh," he
said. "It just makes you want to put on some good fresh clothes. And you
got to have that hook on there, that chorus where they know it's time to party.
Summer time they know it's time to party. You can't be talking 'bout the wrong
things. You gotta be talking 'bout the club, 'bout staying out late every
night. It's summer time. It's hot outside." (SOHH)
Busta Rhymes, who's new album Back on My B.S.
just hit stores, agrees.
"What makes a hot summer
song? First and foremost, the beat. The beat got to knock and make
motherfuckers wanna spazz out, drop they top, throw they hands in the air while
they riding down the strip," Busta told SOHH. "The second
thing is it got to be a tempo that's a danceable one because all of the block
parties is happening in the summer. All the greekfests... the
Penn relays, the
Kentucky Derby, Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July the grills is out the
barbecues is happening. (SOHH)

Soulja Boy Talks T.I. Farewell Concert, Promises To
Out-Twit Diddy

Teen rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em
recently explained how he wound up at T.I.'s farewell concert
last month and how he plans to pass both Barack Obama and Diddy
on Twitter.
Despite Diddy's one million followers, Soulja Boy discussed
a "secret" he had to outshine the Bad Boy CEO's Twitter
page.
"Yeah man, you know, T.I.
called me and told me he wanted me to come through before he went in [to
prison]," Soulja Boy explained in an interview. "I said no problem,
you feel me? I was in Atlanta,
came through to the Philips Arena, you know there was like 19,000 to 20,000
people there...I got a trick up my sleeve [for Twitter]. I'ma pass
Diddy, Ashton Kutcher and Barack Obama. I got a trick up my
sleeve, y'all gonna see me all on the news, 'Soulja Boy with the
history-breaking Twitter. Oh my god.' We just gonna let 'em call it a miracle,
'How did he do it?'" (Radio Planet)
Tip gave his farewell concert just days before
beginning a 366-day prison sentence last week.
T.I. told fans he would stay
optimistic when he heads to prison on a federal weapons conviction. The
28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr., performed for a
packed audience Sunday (May 24) night in Atlanta's Philips Arena less than two
days before he is to begin serving the sentence of a year and a day. "I'm
going to stand up tall, head up high," he said. "Thank you for all of
your support." Many in the packed crowd held up encouraging signs, like
one reading "T.I. We Will Miss U!" (Associated Press)
Soulja has been known to receive praise from rap
stars including Kanye West and Scarface.
"I think the Internet is
what's wrong with rap right now," he explained. "Because it's no way to
filter garbage. You say some dumb-a** sh*t, and you get a million hits on your
Web site...And Soulja Boy is not included...He getting money and he's my son's
age. I like the way he do it. I think he got the potential to be the next Russell
Simmons]. I'm giving him some big-a** shoes to stand beside
but if that kid really focus on finding talent and marketing that sh*t like he
is now at f*cking 18, 19-years-old, I ain't mad at it...Dre [is the best
producer] in the f*cking world. Like, I was listening to a track in this movie
War and it was just an instrumental. The f*cking track was man who can f*ck
with it? I mean the man releases a record every eight or nine years. This is
how you rate the producers: staying power. Everything that he's ever touched was
some big sh*t." (Vibe)
He recently described his aim to make a
"classic" hip-hop album.
